SIGNIFICANT DELAYS ON ROUTE 211 IN SHENANDOAH COUNTY STARTING MAY 1 FOR PAVING OPERATIONS

STAUNTON – Milling and paving operations are expected to create significant delays for about 30 days beginning Monday, May 1, on Route 211 (East Lee Highway) in Shenandoah County. This is a three-lane roadway on a steep mountain stretch between the town of New Market and the Page County line.

This complex, multi-phase operation allows only one travel lane to be open at a time. A single travel lane will serve both eastbound and westbound traffic. Pilot trucks will control eastbound and westbound traffic Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. The traffic restrictions will be lifted outside of these hours.

Route 211 motorists approaching from the New Market area or from Page County could be delayed for up to 20 minutes at a time. Digital message signs will provide work-zone warnings on both sides of the work zone.

On weekdays during non-work hours, Route 211 drivers should be alert for areas of uneven pavement. Contractors will make every effort to level the pavement for travel on weekends.

All work is weather permitting.
