RICHMOND DISTRICT ADDRESSING DORIAN IMPACTS
Crews will continue to patrol Friday for additional storm damage

SOUTH CHESTERFIELD—The Virginia Department of Transportation’s (VDOT) Richmond District crews continue to patrol district roads for damage sustained by high winds from Hurricane Dorian. Overnight Thursday and into Friday, crews worked to remove fallen trees and other debris from roads. Crews will continue to monitor district routes throughout the day, and traffic signal teams are on standby to address malfunctions as needed.

Tropical storm force winds remain possible Friday for portions of the Richmond District, including Charles City, New Kent and Prince George counties. VDOT crews will continue to patrol those areas and address storm impacts until high winds subside.

Driving Tips

Motorists are encouraged to monitor weather reports and road conditions before traveling and take the following precautions:

  • If a traffic signal is out, drivers are advised to treat the intersection as a four-way stop.
  • Never drive around road closure barricades. Remember, the road has been closed for motorist safety.
  • Never attempt to move fallen power lines or trees yourself. Utility lines could still be live, and approaching them may be unsafe.
