FAIRFAX – Overnight lane closures are planned on I-66 East and West between Nutley Street and I-495 this Saturday night, April 1, for overhead bridge work. This construction activity on the new Gallows Road Bridge will also require closure of the 66 Express Lanes in both directions in the area. Drivers should be prepared for intermittent 20-minute traffic stoppages on I-66 East and West between 1 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. This work is part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.

Drivers should expect delays if traveling in this area and are encouraged to use alternate routes. All work is weather dependent and will be rescheduled to the following night should inclement conditions occur. This work had previously been planned for Saturday night, March 25, but was rescheduled due to inclement weather.

Saturday night, April 1
I-66 East between Nutley Street and I-495

• I-66 East will be reduced to two travel lanes approaching Gallows Road from midnight to 7 a.m.
• Drivers should expect up to four 20-minute traffic stoppages between 1 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. 
• All lanes will reopen by 7 a.m. 

66 Express Lanes East from Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road) to I-495

• The 66 Express Lanes East will be closed at Route 123 from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m.
• Traffic will be directed to exit the express lanes at Route 123, turn right at the traffic signal onto Route 123 South, then stay to the right to access the I-66 East general-purpose lanes.

I-66 West from I-495 to Gallows Road

• One lane of I-66 West approaching I-495 will be closed from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m.
• Drivers should expect up to four 20-minute traffic stoppages between 1 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. 
• All lanes will reopen by 7 a.m. 

66 Express Lanes West from I-495 to Vaden Drive

• The 66 Express Lanes West will be closed between I-495 and Vaden Drive from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. 

Ramp from I-495 North to I-66 West 

• One lane on the ramp will be closed from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. 
• Drivers should expect up to four 20-minute traffic stoppages between 1 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. 
• All lanes will reopen by 7 a.m. 

Ramp from I-495 South to I-66 West 

• One lane on the ramp will be closed from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. 
• Drivers should expect up to four 20-minute traffic stoppages between 1 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. 
• All lanes will reopen by 7 a.m.

Ramp from the 495 Express Lanes North to the 66 Express Lanes West

• The ramp will be closed from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Ramp from the 495 Express Lanes South to the 66 Express Lanes West

• The ramp will be closed from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m.
