Overnight Ramp Closures at Multiple I-66 Interchanges April 30-May 6 for the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project

FAIRFAX – Temporary ramp closures are scheduled to occur during the overnight hours at the following I-66 interchanges as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.

Sunday, April 30
Ramp from I-66 West to Route 28 North
Ramp from I-66 West to Braddock Road/Walney Road

The ramp will be closed between 10:30 p.m. and 5 a.m. for paving. Traffic will be detoured to Route 28 South, to Route 29 North, stay to the right and follow signs to Route 28 North. Drivers headed to Braddock Road/Walney Road will then stay left and follow signs to that exit. Note: This closure will not be implemented when the detour conflicts with other closures.

Monday, May 1, and Tuesday, May 2
Ramp from I-66 West to Route 234 Business (Sudley Road) North and South 
The ramp will be closed both nights from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. for paving. Drivers will be directed to continue farther west, exit to Route 29 (Lee Highway) North Gainesville, stay to the left on the ramp and turn left at the traffic signal onto Route 29 South, then stay to the right to I-66 East and follow signs to Route 234 Business.
Note: This closure will not be implemented when the detour conflicts with other closures.

 

Monday, May 1, through Friday, May 5
Ramp from I-66 West to Route 29 (Lee Highway) North and South Centreville
The ramp will be closed between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. on multiple nights for paving and noise wall work. Traffic will be detoured prior to the closure to Route 28 South, then follow signs to Route 29 North or South. Note: This closure will not be implemented when the detour conflicts with other closures. 

Monday, May 1, through Friday, May 5
Ramp from I-66 East to Route 28 North   
The ramp will be closed between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. on multiple nights for paving and drainage work. Traffic will be detoured farther east to Route 286 (Fairfax County Parkway) North, stay to the right to I-66 West, then follow signs to Route 28 North. Note: This closure will not be implemented when the detour conflicts with other closures.


Monday, May 1, through Friday, May 5
Ramp from Route 28 North to Braddock Road/Walney Road
The ramp will be closed between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. on multiple nights for paving and drainage work. Traffic will be directed to continue farther north to the Westfields Boulevard Interchange. Drivers traveling to Braddock Road will take the exit to Westfields Boulevard West, then continue to Braddock Road. Drivers traveling to Walney Road will take the exit to Westfields Boulevard East, then turn right onto Walney Road.  Note: This closure will not be implemented when the detour conflicts with other closures.

 

Monday night, May 1, through Wednesday night, May 3
Ramp from Route 286 South to I-66 West
The ramp will be closed each night between midnight and 4 a.m. for barrier removal and guardrail installation. Traffic will be directed to I-66 East, exit to Route 50 West, then stay to the right and follow signs to I-66 West. Note: This closure will not be implemented when the closure conflicts with other detours.


Monday night, May 1, and Thursday night, May 4  
Ramp from Route 123 North to I-66 East
The ramp will be closed both nights between midnight and 4 a.m. for noise wall installation and a traffic shift. Traffic will be directed farther north to the loop ramp to I-66 West, exit to Route 50 East, then follow signs to I-66 East.


Monday night, May 1
Ramp from Nutley Street South to I-66 East
The ramp will be closed between midnight and 4 a.m. for paving. Traffic will continue south and stay to the right through the roundabout, then stay to the left and make a U-turn at the traffic signal at Route 29 (Lee Highway) onto Nutley Street North, then follow signs to I-66 East.

 

Monday, May 1, through Friday, May 5
Ramps from I-66 West to I-495 South and the 495 Express Lanes South
The ramps will be closed each night between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. for overhead bridge work. Traffic will be directed to continue farther west to Nutley Street, stay to the left on the ramp, then use the roundabout to reach Nutley Street South, stay right to I-66 East, and follow signs to I-495 South or the 495 Express Lanes South.


Tuesday, May 2
Ramp from Route 234 Bypass (Prince William Parkway) to I-66 East
The ramp will be closed between 8 p.m. and 4 a.m. for paving. Traffic will be detoured to I-66 West, exit to Route 29 North, turn left at the traffic signal onto Route 29 South, then stay to the right to I-66 East. 
Note: This closure will not be implemented when the detour conflicts with other closures.

 

Tuesday night, May 2, through Friday night, May 5
Ramp from I-66 West to Route 50 West
The ramp will be closed between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. on multiple nights for paving. Traffic will be directed to continue farther west to Route 286 (Fairfax County Parkway) South, stay to the right to I-66 East, then follow signs to Route 50 West.


Wednesday, May 3
Ramp from Route 29 North Centreville to I-66 West 
The ramp will be closed between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. for paving. Traffic will be directed to continue farther north to the intersection of Machen Road/Trinity Parkway. At the traffic signal drivers will use the left-most left turn lane to make a U-turn onto Route 29 South, then stay to the right and follow signs to I-66 West. Note: This closure will not be implemented when the detour conflicts with other closures.


Wednesday, May 3, through Friday, May 5
Ramp from I-66 West to Braddock Road/Walney Road
The ramp will be closed each night between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. for paving and overhead bridge work. Traffic will be directed to Route 28 North, travel to the Westfields Boulevard Interchange. Drivers heading to Braddock Road will take the exit to Westfields Boulevard West, then continue to Braddock Road. Drivers traveling to Walney Road will take the exit to Westfields Boulevard East, then turn right onto Walney Road.


Wednesday night, May 3, and Thursday night, May 4
Ramp from Route 50 East to I-66 East
The ramp will be closed both nights between midnight and 4 a.m. for a concrete pour. Traffic will be directed farther east, stay to the left and use the left-most left turn lane to make a U-turn at the traffic signal at Waples Mill Road, then stay to the right and follow signs to I-66 East. Note: This closure will not be implemented when the detour conflicts with other closures.

 

Thursday night, May 4, and Friday night, May 5
Ramp from I-66 West to Route 286 South
The ramp will be closed both nights between midnight and 4 a.m. for barrier removal and guardrail installation.  Traffic will be detoured prior to the closure to Route 286 North, stay to the right to exit to Fair Lakes Parkway/Monument Drive, turn left at the traffic signal onto Fair Lakes Parkway, then stay to the left and turn left at the traffic signal onto the ramp to Route 286 South.

 

Thursday night, May 4, and Friday night, May 5
Ramp from Route 286 North to I-66 West
The ramp will be closed both nights between midnight and 4 a.m. for barrier removal and guardrail installation. Traffic will be directed to I-66 East, travel to Route 50 West, then stay to the right to I-66 West.
