FALLS CHURCH – The Virginia Department of Transportation is holding a public information meeting Monday, Oct. 21 on a study of potential safety and operational improvements for three miles of Route 50 (Arlington Boulevard) between Jaguar Trail and Wilson Boulevard (Route 613). 

The study is being completed through the Strategically Targeted Affordable Roadway Solutions (STARS) program, which aims to identify cost-effective measures intended to improve safety and reduce congestion.

The concepts being studied include:

• Improved traffic signal timing and operations
• Turn lane improvements
• Turn restrictions
• Access management
• Pedestrian enhancements
• Innovative Intersections

Stop by between 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. in the cafeteria at Falls Church High School, 7521 Jaguar Trail, Falls Church, VA 22042 to learn more about the study and to provide your input. A short presentation will begin at 7 p.m., and VDOT staff will be available to answer questions.

A key part of this phase of the study is public input. Residents and travelers of the corridor in the study area are asked to take a short survey that is now available for responses on the study website. You may also give comments at the meeting or submit them by Thursday, Oct. 31 to Mr. Bobby Mangalath, Virginia Department of Transportation, 4975 Alliance Drive, Fairfax, VA 22030.  

A follow-up public information meeting to present potential recommendations will be held near the end of the study, which is scheduled for completion in spring 2020.
