WATERLICK/TIMBERLAKE RECONSTRUCTION DELAYED
LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) announces that the start of reconstruction of the Timberlake Road (U.S. 460 Business) and Waterlick Road (state route 622) intersection in Campbell County, will be delayed and as a result will not be completed until 2023. An updated schedule will be available later this year.
This start is being delayed because no bids were received when first advertised.
Previous news releases, as well as, information provided during the Public Involvement Process indicated that any work during construction requiring a lane closure would occur overnight or on weekends. Because no bids were received, VDOT re-evaluated the traffic delays at the intersection and determined that some of the work could be accomplished during daytime hours.
Some portions of the work will still require night work.
The purpose of this project is to improve the operations and safety of the existing Route 460
Business, Timberlake Road intersection with Waterlick Road. The project will extend and offset the left turn lanes on Timberlake Road, and extend the right turn lane westbound on Waterlick Road. In addition, Waterlick Road west of the intersection will be widened to accommodate left turning truck movements. Access management principles will be used to optimize operations of the intersection.
This project was submitted and approved for SMART SCALE funding in fiscal year 2017.
Additional details about the $2.2 million project may be viewed on the SMART SCALE website.
