I-95 SOUTHBOUND FULL TRAFFIC STOPS TONIGHT IN STAFFORD
All southbound traffic near exit 140 (Courthouse Road) will be stopped for up to 30-minute intervals between midnight and 3 a.m. Friday, May 20
FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The 95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension project team has scheduled lane closures and full traffic stops for a work zone this evening on Interstate 95 as part of construction to build a new American Legion Road overpass in Stafford County.
Starting at 10 p.m. tonight, May 19, I-95 southbound will be reduced to one lane near exit 140 (Courthouse Road).
Between midnight and 3 a.m. Friday, May 20, crews will stop all I-95 southbound traffic near the interchange for up to 30 minutes at a time. In between each stop, congestion will be allowed to clear before the next full traffic stop.
Virginia State Police will assist with traffic control.
To accommodate construction of the 10-mile extension of the express lanes in the I-95 median, crews demolished the American Legion Road overpass and are building a new, slightly wider bridge. The bridge construction is located at mile marker 138.
The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) advises overnight travelers to anticipate major delays on I-95 southbound during this work zone. Before starting a trip, motorists should check 511Virginia.org to find real-time updates on work zones and traffic conditions.
