VDOT News - Fredericksburg

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – On Thursday, May 20, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will close a portion of Route 623 (Jersey Road) in King George County for an emergency pipe replacement project.

Crews will replace portions of two 72-inch drainage pipes under Jersey Road. The deteriorated pipes are located just east of Route 301 at the Gingoteague Creek.

The project is expected to be complete in approximately 10 weeks, weather permitting.

The road will be closed to through traffic at the work site 24 hours a day. Construction activity will be underway from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

During the closure drivers will be detoured approximately three miles around the work site using the following routes:

• Route 3
• Route 301

According to a recent VDOT traffic count, approximately 1,300 vehicles use Jersey Road daily.

Jersey Road connects with Route 3 and Route 301.
