FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Next week, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will close a portion of Route 636 (Providence Road) in Gloucester County during daytime hours for replacement of a drainage pipe.

Providence Road will be closed to through traffic near the intersection with McKinney Lane between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. daily on Monday, Dec. 7 through Friday, Dec. 11, weather permitting. Providence Road will be re-opened to traffic at all other times.

Crews will install a new 19-inch by 30-inch culvert to replace a deteriorated 18-inch drainage pipe underneath the road.

Signs will be posted to guide motorists along the recommend detour route, which is approximately 5 miles:

• Route 633 (Cedar Brush Road)
• Route 635 (Piney Swamp Road)
• Route 614 (Hickory Fork Road)

Message boards will be placed this week to notify motorists of the upcoming daytime road closure on Providence Road and detour.

An average of 1,200 vehicles a day travel on Providence Road, according to a recent VDOT traffic count.
