Update: Rain postpones start of project until Wednesday, June 26OUTE 620 (DUNBROOKE ROAD) IN ESSEX COUNTY TO CLOSE JUNE 10 FOR REPAIRS
VDOT crews will repair road shoulders and drainage structures damaged during Tropical Storm Michael; A detour will be in place for an estimated 10 days
FREDERICKSBURG – On Monday, June 10, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will close a portion of Route 620 (Dunbrooke Road) in Essex County to allow crews to repair damage caused by Tropical Storm Michael.
The October 2018 tropical storm damaged the road’s shoulders and the existing 24-inch concrete pipe that crosses Dunbrooke Road just north of the intersection with Route 693 (Lane Drive).
Beginning Monday, VDOT crews will repair the road shoulders, and install 8-foot-long drainage pipe extensions. Crews will also install concrete head walls on each side of the existing pipe to repair the damage.
Motorists will be detoured approximately 10 miles around the work zone. VDOT has posted message boards and signs to guide motorists along the recommended detour route:
- Route 622 (Latanes Mill Road)
- Route 621 (Midway Road)
- Route 622 (Minor Road)
- Route 360 (Richmond-Tappahannock Highway)
Motorists are reminded to adhere to all road closed signs and barricades, and to follow the posted detour route. The road is closed for traveler safety.
According to a recent VDOT traffic count, approximately 560 vehicles travel along this section of Dunbrooke Road daily.
Weather permitting, Dunbrooke Road is expected to reopen to traffic on Wednesday, June 19.
