Avoid Sunday travel due to winter weather forecast
BRISTOL – With the potential of snow overnight, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) asks motorists to avoid travel Sunday.
VDOT Bristol crews have pretreated Interstate 81, Interstate 77 and high-volume primary highways with brine in advance of the snow.
Reminders:
• Be weather aware. Follow local forecast and visit 511Virginia.org for the latest road conditions.
• If you must travel during adverse weather, review forecasts along your entire route and allow extra travel time. Also, ensure adequate fuel amounts, carry a blanket and winter clothes in your vehicle, and pack snacks and water.
• Allow crews time and space to plow and treat roads.
Crews will work around the clock to clear roads, beginning with interstates and primary highways, then shifting to secondary roads and neighborhoods once the main roads are passable.
